we started the day at Hayes Station at about 1.00pm and travelled down to Ealing Broadway with twelve cubs from 8th Hayes plus 3 leaders (Paul, Jackie and myself) and 4 cubs from 3rd Hayes plus 1 Leader (Sandra).
From there we got onto the District and went on to the Natural history Museum, we spent the afternoon there before moving on to the science museum.
We were going to see the dinosaurs first but the natural history was really busy in that area so we went and had a look at the blue whale etc, before getting to see the dinosaurs just before the museum closed. We also had afternoon tea in the school dinning area before moving onto
the science museum for the science night sleepover.
The doors opened at 6.00pm we were first in, we were shown to our sleeping area, this was the 'Who am I' area of the museum were beds were set up, a roll mat or two on the floor! We then went for a safety briefing, although it is about safety it is done in a light hearted way to keep Cub's interested and amused!
After the safety briefing we went off in our groups, these are sorted out by the science night team, this year it was stars, planets and moons, of different colours. We followed the leader to the first experiment this being about temperature and how things change when (super) heated and (Super) cooled, cubs are asked to help out during all experiments.
From here we then went to another room and did some experiments with polymers, these can be seen in the photos, again we looked at the uses of plastics in our every day life, where they can be found and the effects on the environment, we then made things with some polymers. We then went and had our evening snack, then another area with time zones for the cubs to find out about different things when they were
made etc.
Here they had a quiz / question paper they had to do, before being shown to our sleeping area, the cubs are given time to settle down before lights out at about 11.45.
During the whole evening we had a question paper which had too be completed and handed in at the end of the night for the prize giving in the morning.
Early morning rise, 06.00am lights on and time to get up for wash and breakfast, again all supplied in the cost, breakfast is very basic but enough for the cubs. Of again to different areas this time we went to the body zone where they are given time to experiment with different things on their own.
Official finish time was 10.00am so just before 09.30am we assembled again for a closing ceremony were certificates and awards are given out.
Once the science night is finished we had the rest of the morning / day to ourselves, we stayed until 12.00am finishing in the museum shops, before moving on to the restaurant where we were to have dinner. This was a place called 'Organic Pizza' about 10-15 minutes walk from the museum, following a very nice lunch it was back on the underground and District line then over ground train to Hayes for about 04.00pm and
pickup and dispersal.
